International scientific collaborations among universities, academic institutions and research centers are of particular importance in today's world, consistently preserving and enhancing the dynamism of the academic environment in these centers. The ease of communication and intercontinental travel, along with access to diverse information through international information networks, has brought members of the global village closer than ever, making bilateral or multilateral collaborations practically essential.
The International Academic Relations Department at Ferdowsi University of Mashhad, whose primary goal is to expand the university's collaborations with other universities worldwide, operates with the following objectives:

So far, this office has signed over 300 Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) and academic agreements with universities and higher education institutions in more than 40 global countries. The main areas of cooperation outlined in these agreements—whether in general or specific terms—include:
- Joint research activities (including the exchange of faculty members and researchers)
- Participation in seminars and academic conferences
- Exchange of educational materials and other scientific information
- Short-term specialized academic programs and, in some cases, the establishment of joint degree programs
