Research description: Second Language Acquisition; Applied Linguistics Biography: Hossein Nassaji is Professor of Applied Linguistics in the Department of Linguistics at the University of Victoria, Victoria, BC. His teaching and research interests include second language acquisition, corrective feedback, form-focused instruction, task-based teaching, classroom discourse, and the application of sociocultural theories to second language research and pedagogy. He also maintains active research interests in L2 reading processes, lexical inferencing, and the acquisition of L2 vocabulary. His current research focuses on the role of interactional feedback and focus on form in classroom and laboratory settings, involving both experimental/quantitative and descriptive/qualitative research. He has published numerous articles in leading journals, including Applied Linguistics, Applied Psycholinguistics, Language Learning, Modern Language Journal, TESOL Quarterly, Reading Research Quarterly, Annual Review of Applied Linguistics, Canadian Modern Language Review, Language Awareness, Language Teaching Research, and Foreign Language Annals. His recent books include Interactional Feedback Dimension in Instructed Second Language Learning (2015, Bloomsbury Publishing), Teaching Grammar in Second Language Classrooms: Integrating Form-Focused Instruction in Communicative Context (2010, Routledge, with Sandra Fotos), Form-Focused Instruction and Teacher Education: Studies in Honour of Rod Ellis (2007, Oxford University Press, with Sandra Fotos), and Corrective feedback in second language teaching and learning (2017, Routledge, with Eva Kartchava). His forthcoming book is The Cambridge Handbook of Corrective Feedback in Language Learning and Teaching (Cambridge University Press, with Eva Kartchava). He is currently Co-Editor of Language Teaching Research and Editor of the Grammar Teaching Volume of The TESOL Encyclopaedia of English Language Teaching being published by Wiley in partnership with TESOL International. He also co-edited (with Daphnée Simard) the 2010 Canadian Modern Language Review Special Issue on Current Developments in Form-focused Interaction and Second Language Development, and edited the 2016 Special Issue of Studies in Second Language Learning and Teaching on Current Advances in Instructed SLA. Dr. Nassaji is the winner of the Twenty-First Annual Kenneth W. Mildenberger Prize of Modern Language Association of America (with Gordon Wells of the University of California, Santa Cruz) and the recipient of 2012 Faculty of Humanities Award for Research Excellence, University of Victoria. |

Biography: Dr. Mobini has a passion for horticulture, plant physiology, and plant breeding, with an impactful contribution to research, education, and extension practice. He received his Ph.D. in Agro-Biotechnology and Crop Production Systems from UPM and M.Sc. in Agronomy and Plant Breeding from FUM. Mobini developed novel concepts for improving plant growth and production at the University of Saskatchewan, recognized as Speed Breeding (first published in 2015), which became a popular research tool worldwide. Designing cutting-edge indoor growing setup, assisting plant breeders/ agrobiologists are his approach. Capturing modern technologies, such as light manipulation for better plant growth, aeroponics and bioreactor systems, plant factory design, micropropagation, and high throughput phenomics are his recent achievements. Mobini’s recent affiliations are a director of R&D in the horticulture industry and Greenhouse Research Scientist at Crop Research Extension Section in Alberta Agriculture and Forestry CANADA. He has been internationally recognized for his outstanding research, outreach, and educational programs to support graduate studies at the Department of Plant Sciences, University of Saskatchewan as well as co-supervising graduate students in the Department of Horticultural Science and Landscape at the Ferdowsi University of Mashhad. In his roles, Mobini has provided leadership to comprehensive applied research programs as well as the multidisciplinary approach in executing and supervising indoor trials, design, and conduct laboratory experiments, translating visionary science to practice in different settings of tissue culture, growth chamber, greenhouse, and urban farming. He is consistently collaborating with other scientists in the academic field with the aim of being a pioneer at the Ag Tech industry which has led to receiving multi grants and publishing several papers.

| Dr. Sayyed Mohsen Fatemi (PhD, University of British Columbia, 2003, postdoctoral researcher, Harvard University, 2009-2013) is a fellow in the department of psychology at Harvard University and works on mindfulness and its psychological implications for cross-cultural, clinical, and social psychology. He is a frequently published author and has been the keynote speaker of numerous international conferences. His publications appear in Springer, Wiley, Cambridge University Press, and Oxford University Press, and Journals such as APA's Journal of Theoretical and Philosophical Psychology. His new book on psychology of language will be published by Routledge in New York, and he has new publications forthcoming with the American Psychiatric Association, Macmillan Palgrave, and Lexington. In addition to teaching at Harvard, he has taught psychology at the University of British Columbia, Western Washington University, University of Massachusetts in Boston, and University of Toronto. He brings mindfulness in his psychological and therapeutic interventions and has run training and coaching programs for clinicians, practitioners, and corporate people in North America, Europe, and abroad. He is presently working on the clinical implications of mindfulness for anxiety and stress management.
